Assam: International Conference on Wild Silk Moths begins today

 Guwahati ,Jan 22:-- In Assam, the eighth edition of the International Conference on Wild Silk Moths began today in Guwahati. Attending the program, Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta said that the Centre has taken the slew of measures for the development of silk and textile sector. He said that 110 districts of North East are silk producers and hoped that the conference would help in increasing income of the people of the region who are involved with silk industry.

 

Mr Tamta said that the steps taken by Textiles ministry in the last 4 years have helped in an increase of export. Assam Handloom and Textile minister Ranjit Dutta said that Assam produced 99 percent of country's total Muga. He said that the Assam government has taken various measures to develop infrastructure of the sector.Mr. Dutta said that 3.1 lakh families of the state are involved in handloom and textile sector.

 

 

 

 On the other hand, Textiles Secretary Anant Kumar Singh said that recently 24 projects have been sanctioned in North East by the Centre with a cost of over 800 crore rupees. Our Correspondent reports that delegates from 15 countries have taken part in the three-day event.

 

India is holding the event for the second time with an aim to explore latest research and development. The conference is being organized by the Central Silk Board and International Society for Wild Silk Moths.

Four people killed in Assam road mishap
