Campaigning for first phase of Gujarat assembly polls to end today

New Delhi,Dec 7:-- With just one day left for campaigning to end for first phase of Gujarat assembly polls, political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters.

Addressing a public meeting in Netrang this evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, his government works for the welfare of the tribals. He said, Congress party ruled for 50 years, but did not create a Tribal Ministry.

Mr Modi said, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the Prime Minister of the country, a separate Tribal Ministry and a separate budget for tribals were created. He said, the education of girls in Gujarat, and especially tribal girls, has improved.

Mr Modi alleged that Congress party has forgotten the contribution of the tribal communities to India's freedom struggle. He said, Congress feels that only one family has won freedom for India. He declared that his government has decided that 40 million households will be provided free electricity connections. The Prime Minister said his government is a government for the poor.

Earlier, addressing public meetings in Dhandhuka and Dahod, Mr Modi said, BJP government in Gujarat has succeeded in tackling corruption in the state.

On the other hand, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has said that 39 percent of the children in Gujarat are malnourished. In a tweet, Mr Gandhi said the state faces crisis of doctors and cost of healthcare facilities is very high. He also raised concerns on the number of infant deaths in the state.

A Congress delegation of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee met the Chief Electoral Officer this evening and submitted a memorandum demanding removal of three officers, including two IPS officers accused in fake encounter cases, for free and fair conduct of polls.
