Crime rate Down in 2017 in Angul,Says SP

 Angul,Jan 18( Fast Mail):--Despite an increase in cases registered at various police stations in different cases in Angul district in the year 2017, the district has seen a marked decrease in violent crime compared to this time last year.

 SP,Brijesh Kumar Rai said in a press conference here at Angul on Wednesday here said that compared to the year 2016 the district saw  a decrease in cases related to violent cases.

Despite a rise in registering of various cases at different police stations in the district crime like dacoity,robbery,burglary,rape and other crimes have come down ,the SP said.

In the year 2017 about  4,287 cases were registered while 3,975 cases got  registered at different police stations were registered in the year 2016 in the district.

The District recorded 22 homicides in the year  2017, while it was  15 in the year 2016.

The number of rape cases decreased from 77 in 2016 to  62 in the year 2017.The number of burglary cases too came down from 172 in 2016 to 134 in 2017.Murder cases have come down to  41 in the year 2017 while the cases of murder stood at 58 in the year 2016,SP informed.

How ever, torture cases against woman saw  an increasing trend in Angul district during the last year, the SP said.

 In 2016, a total of 116 cases were committed against women. The number increased to 151 in 2017 last year. Non-dowry torture cases too saw an increase. It is reported that 56 cases of non-dowry related torture surfaced in the year 2016.It  saw a rise of 67 cases in 2017.

Cases of robbery remained same.While 116 cases of robbery were reported in 20216 the figure stood at 115 in 2017.

The cases of accident have come down too in the year 2017.While 220 persons were died due to accidents at various places in the district in the year 2016, 193 people died in 2017 in the district.

 In the year operation in coal mines were disrupted 58 times due to agitation by the affected people.As many as 40 cases were booked for disruption of coal production and transportation.Likewise, 32 coal theft cases were registered with the police in last six months in different coalmine areas.375 tonnes of coal were seized and Rs 3lakhs 95,900 were fined during this period. 

Maoists menace in Angul have come down too. Forces like CRPF,SOG and District Volunteer Forces have been deployed to tackle the menace.

SP (Angul) , however, maintained many steps have been taken to curb crime against women.

“While we have experienced a significant decrease in violent crime, there’s still more work ahead to control crime,” said SP,adding as the society have been getting into more complicated, cases against women are increasing day by day ”.

"We are taking care for the redressal of grievances of women through detection and monitoring investigation of crimes against women," Rai said.
