Darjeeling unrest: GJM rules out any discussion with WB govt

Kolkata,Jun 18:-- The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) has ruled out any discussion with West Bengal government but said it is comfortable in holding talks with the BJP-led government at the Centre.

GJM leader Binay Tamang said in Darjeeling yesterday Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has insulted them and has called them terrorists.

He said they are fighting for their right and freedom and talk only with the central government. His comment comes in the backdrop Ms Banerjee's claim of deep-rooted conspiracy in Darjeeling Hills supported by insurgent groups of the North East.




Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday spoke to Ms Mamata Banerjee. Sources said, they discussed the current situation in Darjeeling.

As already reported, one person was killed and 35 security personnel were injured as the hilly region witnessed widespread clashes between Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) activists and the police yesterday. Army contingents were deployed to control the situation and they staged flag marches in several areas of the violence-hit hill district.

Schools, colleges, business establishment and the tourism sector have come to complete stand still.
