Mumbai's BEST buses go on strike, commuters left in the lurch

Mumbai, Aug 7:-- Mumbaikars had a harrowing time on Monday morning when the 3,800 buses operated by Bombay Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) stayed put in the depots to protest against salaries not being paid on time, according to media reports.

BEST employees affiliated to the nine unions have alleged that they have not been paid for the past three months.

BEST workers' union president Shashank Rao, has said that the employees want their salaries on time. He also said that BMC, which governs the civic transport and electricity provider public body, must give an undertaking that the workers will receive their salaries on time, media reported.
