NTPC Kaniha Officials Manhandled

 Kaniha,Jan 11(The Fast Mail):--Tension mounted at NTPC's Kaniha plant area after a contract worker died in a road accident near Ambapal Village under NTPC town police station in Angul district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Budhia Pradhan,35 of baradangua village under NTPC town police station.

Afterr the accident occurred Talcher MLA Braja Kishore Pradhan and his supporters demanding compensation held a road blockade for five hours resulting traffic problem on Talcher-Kaniha road.

Besides,NTPC officials have been manhandled after the accident,it is alleged.

A vehicle of M/s JITPL company allegedly hit  a contractual labourer Budhia Pradhan who was working under M/s RKD Enterprise.

The accident occurred when a speeding heavy truck deployed by M/s JITPL company for ferrying coal to the company hit the deceased Budhia Pradhan while he was on his way to the  plantsite . The victim died at the spot after hitting the truck.

After getting information about the road accident, NTPC Officials Jakir Khan, DGM(HR) ,Rajendra Sahoo  & Santosh Sahoo reached the accident site and held discussion.

NTPC Public relation Officer(PRO),Amit Kumar Behera said:"In a matter of utter surprise, a group of people mainly protesters who gathered at the accident site marched towards three officials and started abusing, hitting and NTPC officials were severely manhandled".

 The manhandling was so severe that it seemed that the protesters had the intention to kill them. The incident occurred in presence of MLA ,Talcher Braj Kishore Pradhan,it is alleged.

The persons who manhandled were Pankaj Pradhan ,Rudra Nayak & Bhagirathi Sahoo of Kaniha area.

NTPC authorities has said that  NTPC Kaniha is nowhere linked to the accident, as the truck which hit the victim was used for the commercial  purpose of M/s JITPL  for transporting coal & whatever compensation to be paid to the death should have been given JITPL.

"NTPC management was pressurized and compelled by force by the protesters in presence of MLA, Talcher & its supporters to make hefty payment of ex-gratia compensation and cremation expenditure", it is alleged.

The road block lifted after the NTPC authorities promised to pay Rs 5 llakhs as compensation to the family of the deceased.

Police have been investigating into the matter.Talcher MLA Braja Kishore Pradhan avoid to give comment.
