Odisha Cabinet to meet today on farmers issue

Bhubaneswar,Nov 6:-- In view of the last one week farmers in many districts of Odisha have torched their paddy fields and alleged committing suicides after sustaining crop loss due to pest attack, the Odisha Cabinet will meet today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the state secretariat in Bhubaneswar.

 

Sources said that after the meet, Chief Minister is likely to announce a package for farmers whose crops have been affected due to pest attack. Official sources said nearly 1 lakh 78 thousand 9 hundred 32 hectares of agricultural land have been affected by pest menace in nine districts of the State. Out of which more than 33 per cent crop loss was reported in nearly 1 lakh 12 thousand hectares of land.
