Tamil Nadu: 12 lakh non-loanee farmers enrolled under Prime Minister’s Fasal Bima Yojana scheme

Chennai,Nov 15:-- In Tamilnadu, 12 lakh non-loanee farmers had enrolled under Prime Minister’s Fasal Bima Yojana scheme.

 

Addressing the orientation workshop for field communicators on Mission Parivar Vikas at Chennai today, Principal Secretary of the State Agriculture Department told that the field communicators have the responsibility to impart awareness on the benefits of the various schemes relating to agriculture to the farmers and encourage more farmers to enrol.

 

Centre had given Rs. 2247 crore as drought relief to the farmers in 2016-17. He told that though Tamilnadu was the last state to join the scheme, the number of farmers enrolling in the scheme was increasing.

 

He said that paddy farmers have to ensure themselves before the 30th of this month to ensure benefits for the next year.

 

In 2017 Rs.803 crore was earmarked to cover 1.36 lakh hectares even after GST. The Secretary told that agricultural produce would be beneficial to the farmers directly if they adopt E-NAM for registering their products.

 

Mr.Bedi also told that the groundwater levels have gone down to 400 and 500 feet and the farmers in the State had to look out for getting water from the other states or the rains.
