TN: Transport unions demand CM to hold talks to end ongoing bus strike

Chennai,Jan 10:-- The transport unions in Tamil Nadu have demanded the state chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy to hold talks for ending the ongoing bus strike.

In a joint statement issued in Chennai, the trade union leaders have said, over two crore commuters are affected by the strike.

The strike continues for the sixth day today, seeking increased salaries under the new wage accord, leaving many of the public transport buses off the road.

That the DMK working president MK Stalin also urged the chief minister to hold talks with the staff representatives directly to end the stalemate.

Raising the issue in the state Assembly yesterday during the Zero Hour, he said the public undergo problems due to the strike that goes on since last Thursday.

However, the chief minister said the transport minister M.R.Vijayabhaskar has held 11 rounds of talks, only after having extensive consultations with him, indicating there is little scope for his direct talks.

Besides affecting students, office goers and the public, the strike has also resulted in significant revenue loss for the transport corporations.
